Children's Guide is one-stop, comprehensive guide to businesses, products, services

and facilities available to children and their families nationally.

A book for Sydney’s City & Inner West 2008-2009 was released in 2008 and quickly won an award at the City of Canada Bay Sustainability Awards for the most child friendly business.

Children’s Guide is not a big business or government publication at all and receives no external funding. There are 3 of us plus a designer and a photographer working on the Guide, two of us working around our kids.

Putting together the first Guide enabled us, businesses and parents, to identify which sections and information are useful and referred to regularly, and which sections are not. We also listened to parents who expressed their desire for a simple to use site, with no distracting pop ups, scrolling messages, AdWords or general bombardment of information.

So now we’ve revised, fine tuned, updated and perfected the layout and type of information contained in what we hope you will find an exciting and invaluable website.  With 395 web-pages so far, we have tried to design the Children's Guide website to be as user friendly as possible. There are a lot of businesses, services and products which address a very large range of issues that face children, their families and carers. We've tried to simply the sections so that readers don't have to look too far for what they're after. There are 4 main portals (Families, Calendar, News, Business) to access information across this site. Each of these entry points is accessible from every single page page on this site and the home page briefly explains what can be found in each of these sections.

The Guide team have been talking to and receiving information from councils, support services and businesses to provide information to families all across Australia. The enthusiasm and support from businesses has been fantastic for which we are very grateful.

Children's Guide is more than just a list of services. It combines useful information and contact details of businesses and services where parents can get more information, with downloadable checklists and activities for kids.

For the most part, we have tried to organise menus, lists and businesses alphabetically. Businesses are listed alphabetically first by advertiser, then by businesses who registered and included a logo, then by businesses who have registered without their logo, and finally public information details of other great businesses which other parents have let us know about or that we've come across. We then invite these businesses to provide additional information for your benefit.

The business section of this site provides details about the sections and sub-sections throughout this site. There is substantial information on how businesses can list for free or add a logo, advertise, or choose additional promotion and exposure for small fees. Please fill in as much information as you can to showcase your business and let parents know about you.
