Keeping children happy ~ activities for kids & families

Family dining

Going out to dinner with kids? Can it be done? Will they eat? Will they behave?

Older children enjoy going out for dinner. They like to feel mature and make independent choices about ordering from a menu. They may also surprise you with beautiful table manners and their sudden ability to properly use cutlery and keep a napkin on their laps.

These cafes, restaurants, clubs and pubs, have identified themselves as family friendly but there are still a few small considerations to remember.

Some listings include the icon for child mobility/play/activities. In the case of restaurants and cafes this should be taken to mean that items such as crayons & butchers paper or small board or card games are available and children should remain seated, not mobile and walking around. Remember, waiters are carrying hot food and drinks, where prams and children underfoot can be very dangerous.

All of these restaurants have specified that they provide children’s meals which are either specific dishes, smaller portions from the regular menu or are willing to put together a small plate from regular items. Many restaurants also allow food and drinks to be brought from home for infants and toddlers.

Book in advance, advise that you are bringing children and view online menus if available.
