Keeping children happy ~ activities for kids & families

Parents & prams cinemas

Seeing a film at the cinema has a kind of magic of its own that just can’t be matched by television. Massive screen, dimmed lights, popcorn all lend to the escapism offered, particularly by children’s movies. And where else can you get your children to sit in one place for two hours?

Most cinemas screen mainstream children’s films, many of which tend to run around school holidays. Some cinemas screen less mainstream films, some of which may interest older children and teens. Cinema websites are a wonderful resource for current films including reviews, previews and specific film information including cast, crew and duration. Call each cinema number or check their websites for movies, session times and other information. When at the cinema ask for a booster seat if your child needs a little extra height.

A number of cinemas offer specific screenings or sound proof viewing rooms for parents, enabling parents to bring infants or children while watching a movie. Regularity, film selection, pricing, concessions, bargain days and other details will vary between cinemas. Essentially the viewings are made child friendly by gently dimming the lights rather than having total darkness, enabling feeding and tending to children as required. Also, as these sessions are promoted as parent-friendly sessions, other patrons are aware that babies and children will be present and anticipate crying, talking and the presence of children. Policies on allowing strollers into certain areas may vary depending on fire regulations. Cinemas offering this service are indicated below and additional information can be obtained from each cinema.
