Keeping children happy ~ activities for kids & families

Games & activities in parks, playgrounds & open spaces

Find a great local

park or playground in

your local community here

There are amazing parks and playgrounds everywhere.

Most Councils (Our community - link above) list the parks in their area and you can find most details such as which have play enclosures with soft-fall and the recommended ages, the availability of bathrooms and other facilities.

We've been taking our kids out to parks from Sydney to Perth and lots in-between.

Many parks also include cycle paths, cricket nets, basketball courts and other sporting fields which may or may not need a booking.

Parks are ideal places for picnics and BBQs. You can take the fully stocked basket and plan a picnic menu days in advance, or simply take the fruit and juice you were going to have for morning tea and relax with a book.

Where space allows, take a kite, model planes, cars or boats. Take a football or cricket set and have a friendly game in an open area.

If you are really enthusiastic you might devise a “scavenger hunt” where your children need to collect different samples of leaves or bark (without picking anything from established gardens) to later be used in a craft activity when you get home. Or you can have a “spotto” list which children tick off when they locate a particular feature, nature or wildlife item.

It doesn’t have to cost you anything to take the kids to the park and might end up being a surprisingly enjoyable day the family spends together.
