Join in our social media discussions

Yes, we're feeling a bit tech-savvy as we've just set up our blog (after reading many Help menus!) and prepared a bit of a plan to keep our social media activities organised.

Children's Guide has a Blog and profiles on FaceBook, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn. These social media are listed below with links and a brief explanation of how we use each, so please like, follow, connect, comment, share and interact as we use social media to let you know what's new.

Children's Guide will also, where possible and time permits, like, comment, re-tweet and share updates of other social media profiles that we follow.

Please make sure you have read and understood our rules for posting and check back from time to time as the rules may be updated. You can find these by clicking the A few friendly rules link in the column to the left. All our social media pages are monitored and moderated and inappropriate comments may be removed and users blocked.

Each day of the week has a theme about one of the sections of Children's Guide around which we will be composing our posts and status updates.

Monday - Community section and any Business portal updates

     Tuesday - Safe section

     Wednesday - Healthy section

     Thursday - Nurtured section

Friday - Happy sub-sections "Activities at Home", "Places to take the kids", "Family dining", and "Family holidays".

Weekends - Happy sub-sections "Parties & events", "Shopping", and "Happy parents".

We may also provide updates on About us, News portal, Events for this and next weekend, the coming week,

and any other Calendar portal updates.

How we use our blog

There are many sub-sections and categories throughout the Children's Guide website with countless different topics relating to each of these. As new articles and discussions are added to this website, they will contain a link so that comments may be made and experiences shared via the Children's Guide Blog. All new discussions and articles will be listed on the landing page of their relevant section or category, indexed in the Article index on our Site map pages, and included in New this week in the News pages.

Businesses who have registered at "Dancing" or "Flying" level (see Business section for information about the levels of registration) will also receive a Blog post dedicated solely to their business and linking back to their listing in Children's Guide. This will enable readers to directly comment on that business's product or service providing both that business and other readers with feedback. The Business index in the Site map will identify which businesses have a blog post. As new business blog posts are added, they will be included in New this week in the News pages.

The business blog post will include a link back to the Children's Guide web page where the business appears, the business logo and an additional photo or graphic. The text will include a description as provided by the business in their registration and additional text from us about how it fits into a particular section or category of Children's Guide, and any positive experience we've had with the business's services or products in the past.

How we use FaceBook

Children's Guide has 3 FaceBook pages.

www.facebook.com/ChildrensGuide

This is the page for parents, carers and the general community to join in the conversations. Based on the daily themes above, each day we will let you know when we've added new articles, discussions and businesses to the website and to our blog, with added graphics and links. We'll also post updates and albums as we get out and take our kids to parks, venues, cafes or use any of the products or services listed in Children's Guide.

Please also become a fan of our Business wall so you can find out when registered businesses are providing news, competitions and special offers, and our Calendar wall for details about upcoming events.

Businesses, please do not start a post, add links or photos on this wall or these will be removed. Do, however, feel free to comment on posts made by Children's Guide or parents. Businesses can promote via the Business page.

This page is for all registered businesses of Children's Guide at any level. To post, DO NOT POST ON OUR WALL, but rather, "like" the Children's Guide Business page first, then Update Status on your own wall starting your post with "@Children's Guide Business" so that your post appears on your wall as well as our business wall and is visible to both yours and our readers and fans. You must post on the day that features the Section in which your business is listed, and only post once a day.

     Monday - Community section

     Tuesday - Safe section

     Wednesday - Healthy section

     Thursday - Nurtured section

     Friday - Happy sections

     Weekends - All sections welcome

Please feel free to post about your business, products, services, news, events, offers and competitions with links and pictures attached to your status update. Children's Guide will also help with regular shout-outs.

If you are not currently a registered business, please go to the Business section to register for Children's Guide - there are 4 levels of registration beginning with "Smiling" which is completely FREE with absolutely no catches for as long as you want. Non-registered businesses who post on this wall will be invited to register with Children's Guide. Non registration will result in posts being removed (sorry).

www.facebook.com/ChildrensGuideCalendar

On this page we will let you know when we've added new events to our Calendar, and upload photos of any events that we attended, or that event organisers have provided as part of their Calendar registration. We'd love to know if you plan on going to any of these events or what your thoughts were if you went.

Businesses, if you have an upcoming event, please Add your event via the Calendar portal. Please do not post event details directly on our wall, but do feel free to comment on our posts when we include your registered event.

Once you've added your event, if you are promoting your event via FaceBook and would like your updates to appear on our wall, please "like" the Children's Guide Business page first, then Status Update on your own wall with any links or photos, beginning your status with "@Children's Guide Calendar" so that your post can be seen by both yours and our readers and fans. Please limit your use of "@Children's Guide Calendar" updates to a maximum of 3 times a week in the lead up to your event.

If you are live Status Updating during your event you may add "@Children's Guide Calendar" to the beginning of your updates twice each day for the duration of your event.

How we use Twitter

Children's Guide Tweets will link back to our website and blog, re-tweet Tweets of interest and generally have a chit-chat if sitting on the sofa at night with the lap-top while watching TV. (I will try and behave myself and not get too cheeky on here ~ Julia)

We will try and relate our Tweets to our days-of-the-week themes above, but this may not always be the case. Please feel free to mention @ChildrensGuide in your Tweets and we will try and reply without too much delay.

How we use Pinterest

On Pinterest, we create a number of boards where we pin images that we find across the internet when doing research for Children's Guide. Pinning an image does not necessarily imply endorsement of the image or original website. These are images that we find inspirational or thought-provoking, and we'll be creating boards on a whole range of safe, healthy, nurtured or happy topics, and wonder "Could I do this?" or "How would I do this differently?" or simply "I wish!"
