A few rules for social media discussions

Hi everyone

We welcome and encourage comments and conversations throughout the various social media that we use.

For now we're keeping the rules simple. Please come back to this list from time to time as we may amend existing rules, add new rules or re-order this list as we gain greater insight into how readers interact with our various social media. Please also see our Privacy and Disclaimer.

Anyone can comment on our blogs and users can remain anonymous if they like. All comments on our Blog are reviewed to ensure that they abide by the following rules. Children's Guide has 2 FaceBook pages and how these are used are outlined in the Social media discussions page.

Businesses and individuals not abiding by these guidelines will have their posts removed.

1. No swearing, including substituting symbols for letters in swear words.

2. No abusive language or threats against any businesses.

3. No abusive language or threats against other individuals who comment.

4. No bullying, abuse, threats or threats of violence.

5. No negative or abusive comments relating to people's gender, race, ethnicity, political, religious, philosophical, environmental, professional, associations or any other lifestyle choices or beliefs.

6. UPPERCASE letters are considered to be shouting/yelling. A word or two may be OK in context. Entire paragraphs or comments may be considered aggressive and will not be approved for publishing. Please ensure your CAPS LOCK is off.

7. User profile avatars, signatures and usernames must not be offensive and not include advertising for businesses not registered with Children's Guide.

8. Do not include personal contact information in posts and comments.

9. Do not post copyrighted information.

6. Do not post identical comments that you first made in another forum or site. Check any other site for their rules on copyright and back-linking.

10. Report anything you find abusive or offensive, rather that becoming defensive or argumentative.

11. If you have a negative experience with any business or service please try and resolve issues directly with that business before adding negative comments.

12. If a business provides a product or service which does not meet your personal preferences, simply state how the product or service was delivered, as often this may be to someone else's liking. For example, rather than saying "this is the worst pizza we ever had" you may choose to say "their pizzas are very thin, my children prefer a thicker base." This allows other readers to make their own choices and provides the business with insights into what consumers like.

13. Businesses, if you are responding to comments made on your posts or posts about you, please follow the above rules and be courteous at all times. If you would like further feedback or to resolve an issue with a customer, please invite them to contact you directly. Please feel free to let us know of resolutions and improved or changed services.

14. Businesses, if you are commenting on a post about another business, please follow the above rules and be courteous at all times. Please do not promote your own business on a blog post or status update about another business, or turn our social media into a battleground about which business is better.

15. Incorrect use may result in blocking users, business registration removed without refund, or banned from registering for a period of time.

16. Do not promote your business if you are not registered with Children's Guide. You can register via our Business pages and free registration options are available.

17. More rules as we think of them.

Thank you for your courtesy and we look forward to

fun, positive, engaging and constructive discussions!
